Cozy Up With Julia
During the multiple winter “whiteouts” that Philly has been plagued with, you cannot beat cozying up in front of the fire with a steaming mug of tequila laced Mexican Hot Chocolate and a great book. One book that refuses to let me put it down is As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child and Avis DeVoto: Food, Friendship, and the Making of a Masterpiece. The movie, Julie & Julia, only provided a brief window into Julia’s world. Through these letters of Avis and Julia, the reader can see the work that went into developing the legendary Mastering the Art of French Cooking. This book gives such a refreshing look at not only one of America’s favorite chefs, but also of politics, women’s roles and the cooking style of that time. Cheers and bon appetit!
