Weekend Escape

Don’t want to give the traditional cliche Valentine’s Day gift of  flowers, chocolate or diamonds? I have the perfect recommendation for you, a romantic getaway to Cape May, NJ.

Cape May is a city at the southern tip of Cape May Peninsula in Cape May County, New Jersey, where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. One of the country’s oldest vacation resort destinations, this quint shore community is charming with great lodging, dining, shopping and of course the beach in the summer. Here are my suggestions to make your getaway perfect in every way.

Stay – The Virginia Hotel is incredible. You’re transported to a southern plantation like home with warm hospitality at this luxury boutique hotel. Rooms are cozy and elegantly decorated. If available, stay in a room with a street front deck, perfect place to enjoy your complimentary breakfast! (25 Jackson Street, 609-884-5700, caperesorts.com)

Eat – Lunch at the Blue Pig Tavern located inside Congress Hall. Try the delicious Beach Plum Farm Deviled Eggs and the Blue Pig Tavern Fish Chips. Dine alfresco and take in the ocean breeze! (200 Congress Place, 609-884-8422, caperesorts.com)

Eat more – For dinner you must dine at The Ebbitt Room located inside the Virgina Hotel. I recommend you try any of the day’s specials along with the Caramelized Sea Scallops, Truffle Macaroni & Cheese and Sweet Ricotta Doughnuts. Simply delicious! (25 Jackson Street, 609-884-5700, caperesorts.com)

Do – Visit the Cape May Winery & Vineyard. Delicious wine with a great family story. Cape May Winery has grown over the past two decades to produce some of South Jersey’s most distinguished wines. The property encompasses over four different vineyards, containing over 70 acres, from which they produce over 16 different varieties of grapes. Make sure you indulge in a wine tasting and take home a bottle of their Chardonnay. (711 Townbank Road, 609-884-1164, capemaywinery.com)

Shop – Till you drop at West End Garage. Only a 5-minute walk from the heart of historic downtown Cape May. This shopping haven features more than 50 stores under one roof, with 62 vendors from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. (484 Perry Street, 609-770-8261, caperesorts.com)

Drink – You must have a cocktail at the Brown Room, located inside Congress Hall. This sophisticated gathering place for both locals and visitors is a little slice of heaven. Live music on the weekends. Be sure to try the Cherry Bourbon Sour…Cheers! (200 Congress Place, 609-884-8421, caperesorts.com)

Experience – Relax and let it go with a spa treatment at Sea Spa located inside Congress Hall. Make your appointment to have the Ocean Memory Marine Ritual and the Customized Sea Spa Facial. You can thank me later! (200 Congress Place, 609-884-6543, caperesorts.com)

This is just the tip of the iceberg. You will have plenty to do when visiting Cape May. Have fun and take it all in!
