Grand Lux Brunch

A few weeks ago I was invited to brunch at Grand Lux Cafe. My experience was delightful!

The Weekend Brunch menu is a fun mix of American, French, Mexican fare and everything else in between. The menu also includes a few thirst quenching cocktails like a classic Mimosa, Strawberry Bellini, Spicy Mary and more.

My meal was exceptional that started with Breakfast Beignets, soft pillowy balls of fried dough covered in powdered sugar served with cinnamon sugar, vanilla whisky creme anglaise and raspberry preserves. This was washed down with a Fresh Strawberry Bellini, strawberry puree, Prosecco and Cointreau. Cheers!

The entrees arrived and they tasted as good as they looked. First up was the Biscuits and Gravy with Eggs, warm buttermilk biscuits and sunny side up eggs smothered with house made sausage gravy, served over crispy crushed potatoes. This dish is incredible. Every item from the biscuits, sausage gravy, eggs (cooked to order) and potatoes were perfectly seasoned. Then came the Fried Chicken and Waffles, a golden fluffy waffle sprinkled with powdered sugar, topped with crispy fried chicken strips, toasted fresh pecans and pecan honey butter sauce. This entree is the best balance of sweet and savory.

In case you did not know, Waffle Day is Friday, March 25. In honor of this special day, be sure to visit a Grand Lux Cafe near you and order the Fried Chicken and Waffles. (Waffle Day began in Sweden as Våffeldagen, actually due to confusion between the Swedish “vårfrudagen” meaning “Our Lady’s Day” which falls on the same date. The day historically marks the beginning of spring and is celebrated by the eating of many waffles.) Happy Spring and Happy Eating!
